2011 Missions Conference

MAPCA held its first mission conference October 14-16, 2011. It was well attended by our supported missionaries as well as the congregation. The supported missionaries in attendance were Dan Faber, President and Executive Director of IXO International, Larry and Sandy Trotter with MTW-Mexico, Doreen Mar MTW-Medical Missions, Robert Brown MTW-Japan, Larry Rockwell MTW-Peru attending via SKYPE, Tommy Skaggs Frederick Rescue Mission; Rebekah Davis and Arn Bjorndal with Central Maryland Youth for Christ, Mike McGregor with Frederick County Young Life, Joe Belinko with Carroll County Young Life, Chris Garriott with Reformed University Fellowship at the University of Maryland, and Matthew Roberts with Christ Community Church (church plant) in Germantown. The missionaries in attendance set up booths during the conference with information about their specific ministries. Many also spoke to the congregation about their mission field describing the current situation and needs.

We learned so much about missions during the conference. Our keynote speaker Dan Faber pointed out that churches often focus their energies inward preparing the body to be biblically proficient and that we have the tendency to think this is needed before we are ready to share the Gospel with others. He pointed out that we don't need to attend another bible study, mission conference, or Sunday school hour in order to be prepared to share our faith. Dan Faber asked that everyone that was a missionary in the congregation to stand up. Very few in the congregation stood up, but Dan was trying to make the point that we all should have stood up because we are all called to be missionaries in whatever situation or location we find ourselves in. Mission opportunities are right outside our doors.

The conference was a wonderful way to worship our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and to learn how to better serve him. It was also a great time of fellowship with our missionaries and congregation.
